Dr. William Abur is a lecturer in social work, a researcher in migration and settlement and an accredited mental health social worker. He holds a Bachelor of Social Work, a master's degree in International and Community Development, a PhD in refugee resettlement from Victoria University, a Graduate Certificate of Higher Education (Learning and Teaching) from Deakin University and a Teaching Certificate from the University of Melbourne. Dr. Abur completed his PhD at Victoria University with a thesis titled "Settlement Strategies for the South Sudanese Community in Melbourne: An Analysis of Employment and Sport Participation". He has taught social work courses at the University of Melbourne and Deakin University. His research areas include refugee settlement, mental health, trauma, resilience, youth and family well-being, social work education and practice, participation in employment and sport, racism and discrimination. Dr. Abur has published widely peer-reviewed papers in his areas of research, including two books and book chapters.
